Description

Kudos for ITV

Created and written by Chris Chibnall (The Great Train Robbery), the multi award-winning drama from Kudos, Imaginary Friends and Sister Pictures sees David Tennant (Doctor Who) return as DI Alec Hardy and Olivia Colman (The Iron Lady) resume her BAFTA award-winning role as Ellie Miller.

The murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer rocked the small Dorset town of Broadchurch in the first series, as DI Alec Hardy – still haunted by the collapse of a previous murder case he worked on – was put in charge of the case, much to the chagrin of local officer DS Ellie Miller. Their investigation saw many townspeople come under suspicion, including Danny’s father Mark (Andrew Buchan, The Honourable Woman), but after many twists and turns, the revelation of the killer’s identity had far-reaching consequences, not least for the two detectives.

The second series followed the trial of murder suspect Joe Miller, as Danny’s family struggled to come to terms with their son’s death, as well as the media spotlight and their desperation for justice to be done.

Miller and Hardy return in the third series of the hit show, both carrying the scars of the past, but determined to move forward.

For the final chapter in this journey, Ellie and Hardy conduct a new investigation, into a serious sexual assault. This is a bold new crime story which forces us to ask whether Broadchurch has a crack running through it caused by Danny Latimer’s death. Our characters strive to contend with this possibility, battling to make hope, friendship and love triumph over fear and suspicion, as a host of suspects present themselves.
