39-year-old mother of three Christine Handy was looking forward to a fresh start. Her divorce settlement was about to come through and it was more than enough to buy a new home in leafy Cheltenham, leaving her mortgage free.
Romance is the last thing on her mind when she is approached by a smartly dressed man in a local coffee shop. He introduces himself as Alexander. They hit it off and in the blink of an eye they become a couple. Alexander tells Christine he's related to the famous Rothschild banking family, and shows her a passport to prove it. Eighteen months into their relationship Christine gives birth to Alexander's son, Marcus, and the new family make plans for a future in Geneva.
But what Christine doesn’t know is that the man she knows as Alexander De Rothschild is actually a highly accomplished scammer called Marc Hatton who was intent on swindling her out of over half a million pounds.
When the truth emerges - Hatton flees the country, but Christine refuses to let him get away with it. She turns detective, and with the help of a private investigator tracks him down to the USA. Her manhunt ends with a confrontation in the car park of a New York gym…
Marc Hatton is extradited to the UK where he serves 18 years for Rape, Sexual Assault and Fraud.
